Organizational Issues

1. Who can take part?

- Our program aims at qualified law students from all over the world. Participants must have successfully completed their first year of law school, however we also welcome graduate students interested in an additional qualification in the field of international business law.

- Good English skills are necessary, as all lectures and tests are held in English. There is no TOEFL test requirement. The summer program includes a mandatory German language course.

- Participants from the following universities can earn up to nine ABA approved credits, which are transferable to the respective home universities:

  • University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
  • George Washington University, Washington D.C.
  • University of Pepperdine, Malibu, California
  • Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, California
  • Chicago-Kent, College of Law, Chicago, Illinois (students from this university can use their credits acquired in Augsburg toward their degrees if they pay a 50% tuition fee to their home university)

- The selection procedure is carried out by the home universities for applicants of the universities listed above. All other applicants have to apply directly to the University of Augsburg.

- The number of participants is limited to 25 students. This ensures that every participant has a free choice between all courses, lectures and seminars offered.

2. Performance requirements

Attendance of courses (worth four credits):

    - Permanent attendance is required (checked attendance lists)
    - One absence per course is permitted
    - If there are more absences, no credits can be rewarded for the particular course

The University of Augsburg offers the series of "Talks of Practitioners", which participants of the summer program are welcome to attend if interested. The talks are held by distinguished lawyers of international law firms, legal advisers of international firms and other experts who will focus on selected problems of international business law.

There are no courses held on Friday. This gives participants the chance to explore social life in Augsburg and participate in trips and excursions organized by the university (see below at “additional services"?).

Exams are offered for each course at the end of the Summer Program. Exams are either oral or written, depending on the different courses. Seminars include a written research paper and a presentation.

You can find an overview over last and this years’ lectures, courses, and seminars here.

3. Certificates

At the end of the program each participant will obtain a formal, detailed certificate confirming the successful completion of the University of Augsburg Summer Program.
